Wow. I can't believe Rachel Maddow took the time to give us this insight!
MSNBC doesn’t pay what it used to. Had to branch out to UA-cam
@@sammckaylin lol thanks for being a good sport. I was feeling saucy the other day, idk. Genuinely thanks for making this vid. It's very helpful!
@@Progger11 No worries at all, I thought it was funny! If you have any questions I'm always happy to help 😃
@@sammckaylin I might reach out with more specifics if I have them. :) I'm American, so, the application process to a UK school is completely different for me, haha. It's also pretty amazing how even the "elite" schools here in the US don't even compare in the sense of history and architectural grandeur to the "elite" schools over there. I went to Columbia for undergrad and Harvard for my Master's, and I thought I had seen some amazing campuses. But now I'm considering Cambridge for my Ph.D. and watching all these campus tours, it's mind-blowing just how beautiful and grand a place it is. I can just *feel* the history wrapped up in it.
Not falling for that one...again.
I can't go to the park today so I can't do that

you're really well spoken and have a clear voice! great video mate.
Why isnt his favourite game pup g?
Looks like he's getting into battle royales next!
Most newer games have moved away from storing the games on disk and rather the link to download the game from the internet. Games are wayyy to large nowadays
Great explanation! Keep it up 👍🏻
I'm sorry but you look like the most British man iv ever seen, the teeth, the hair.
Dude you deserve more than this
Is it actually called sonic hedgehog???
The guy who named it needed a name for a protein in the same family as European and Indian Hedgehog. His wife brought a magazine home and there was an advert for Sonic in it. The rest is history! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_hedgehog_protein
Brilliant ❤thanks
Hi Sam, a great summary Video which is well explained. Cheers Peter :-)
So OBVIOUSLY the Earth is round...clearly...people have been to space...but to play Devil's advocate, look at it the way the Flatheads did 150 or so years ago... Flat Earthers: "Look! All of the flags are all level with each other! *Anyone* can clearly SEE that with their own eyes! Proof that the world is flat!! And look, we can photograph it too!" Scientist: "Well yeah sure but what you can clearly seem with your own eyes is WRONG! See, um...atmospheric refraction! Yeah, if you do this complicated esoteric math it proves that you are wrong, and we are right...and also our esoteric math proves that the Earth is curved *exactly* as much as we say! Just trust us; you are dumb!" Flat Earther: Uh...okay...I guess...but how about you look through this telescope and you can *clearly* see the opposite shore, 23 miles away, which according to your claim of the size of the Earth and it's exact curvature, should be *impossible*! But it's NOT - you can *clearly* SEE IT with your OWN EYES!! How is this not all of the proof that you need!?!? Case closed" Scientists: "Ah, well, it's that refraction, you see! And, um, it was cold outside...or warm outside, either one will do! You just gotta do this special math, and *abracadabra*, the flatness you see just magically goes away!" I *know* that is NOT what's actually happening - but surely you can see how it might have *looked* that way...that you are saying not to trust their own *eyes*...but this extra math that the you are adding *skews* the results to exactly what *you* say that it should be...how convenient! Seems kinda fishy actually....
do a levels matter less when youre applying for masters? because I noticed you got AAA which from what I understand is usually too low to get into cambridge at undergraduate. but obviously you did amazingly in your undergraduate, so that's more of the focus when evaluating masters applications?
Absolutely! Generally speaking all that matters with any application is the last thing you did. If your A-levels are poor and you have a low predicted grade then perhaps your application would be weaker but they tend to be able to stratify applicants just based on their undergraduate marks!
@@sammckaylin Thank you for the reply and video :)
We don't know though.
I mean... It's gotten much better over time. I'd argue that the illustration you showed is more a result of low budget and lack of research. And it's old and scientifically outdated. Paleoart is MUCH less guesswork than you think. Even if a specimen has little physical evidence, that doesn't mean the art will look bad. Even now, we know so much about these creatures that it's hard to get them very wrong. Of course small details will be hard to pin down, like colors and soft tissues. But knowledge is increasing at an exponential rate. You're describing the state of paleoart in 1940.
Absolutely! It’s an interesting problem though and in many cases we still have to extrapolate from minimal data (which is of course *possible* given that you can often determine an animals niche from its feet and jaws). The image shown was also most definitely the worst I could find - other than the Crystal Palace dinosaurs! While a bit of a jibe this very much meant to highlight how skilled a job paleo art is!
Love this ❤

Why would you lie to stitch like that my guy ☹️
Atmospheric refraction is junk science!
Your video clear all my confusion about uni!!! Love your videos, Sam. Keep doing well! You're awesome!
Sorry I want to ask a stupid question, can you explain what spring week is? When is it?
"promosm" 😣
Hehe. Frog land on face. XD
flat earthers deny all of science and then present things that can be debunked in 3 minutes of googling, and then when you tell them that, they get mad and insult you.
I wonder where can I find the internships?
I love your channel because I just got accepted by Imperial, and I'm also studying BIOLOGY!!!🤩🥰😝Your sharing about the application process helps me know what is important in college. It gives me an idea of what need to be done. THANKS A LOT🥳
Can I apply for doctor without studying master?
Besides UROP, is there any other ways to find research opportunities in Imperial? Can I just email the professor and ask to join their group?
I just asked my friend who is in Imperial, but she said there's no textbook for the lectures. How do you know which textbook to read and can you recommend them to us?
Do Imperial offers service that give advice to students' CV and personal statement?
simple answer: allah or Jesus or who ever gave you teeth😂🤝
coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
So what about the soft shell turtle
This was so interesting! You mentioned that you went from zoology to data science. Did you have a background in that before your MPhil? Or was that part of the cichlid project?
Hey Amy! I did some bioinformatics as part of my undergraduate and masters degrees but that was only really in R.I did learn a lot about statistics too but I wasn’t ever really a “data scientist”. I then built on that baseline in my free time by teaching myself python and doing some fun projects ☺️
@@sammckaylin Thank you so much for the detailed reply! Very cool that you were able to successfully transition to it!
